Why CARE LAB?

We are living in a time of polarization, fragmentation, and distrust, and division. To move beyond this - and build a better future - we need to rebuild care, communication, and trust.

Leaders

To do this, we focus on leaders. We began our work in the U.S. Senate, where our programs have built a strong bi-partisan network of the most influential senior staff. We are now expanding to reach new audiences.

Our Approach

We’ve learned that when deeply divided leaders find meaningful ways to connect - as humans - they can develop enough trust and care to work together - even in the most high pressure and adversarial environments. Indeed, scientific research and case studies reveal humans are tremendously capable of change, cooperation, and conflict-resolution. Our programs are built on the premise that care begins with care for oneself — and expands outward. This progression allows leaders to develop practices that don’t lead to burnout but instead create expanding circles of positive impact. Every element of our programs are intentionally designed to not only lead to contact, but transformation.

Defining Care

We view care as a critical survival skill that doesn’t belong to either political party. It is a core leadership value and skillset that grows stronger with practice.

Our vision for the future:

We want to see a country where:

  1. The social fabric of our communities and country is resilient and ready to withstand whatever conflicts and crises lie ahead

  2. Our leaders model a care-based approach by working together — even when they disagree on many things — demonstrating that we don’t have to dehumanize or fear people with different worldviews

  3. Leaders at all levels build a new culture of care-based leadership and create the relationships and skills that will allow our country to overcome conflict and crisis
